Now if you name this show the Johnses? Rush hour multiverse of awkwardness? Just name it anything else then yes we may be able to digest it better. But nooo everything is a reboot now and that’s why it suffered. Everything suffered here… first of all these 2 spies know of each other from the jump so that’s the premise of the whole movie gone down the drain.. then you pitted 2 performers against a real life husband and wife so the chemistry was always gona be a struggle to match. There was no chemistry here.
These lot felt like roommates and every love scene was like meh! We then have background stories to attempt to give these guys some depth but instead made it out that they are emotional spies who don’t want to kill but the job they signed up for is about killing… what clip*. There are these weird times skips which just make it more awkward so then u get lost in story. John and Jane were not convincing as spies and that made for some meedi action, There was no finesse, no swiftness… felt like luck and plot armour was just on their side.
It was really awkward, had to keep reminding myself this is supposed to be a reboot. There was no balance… it fought itself on whether it wanted to be serious or comedic… neither worked. Now this is where I feel the showrunners had the right idea and somehow got lost so it’s not all bad. It points out that in this universe they’re many mr and mrs smiths so anyone could be a hitter… I like that. They meet this other pair and it makes for a funny dinner scene. Again That last episode is where it catches the essence of the original.
It’s not a simple copy and paste but you grasp the enjoyment of knowing these 2 love each other but yet feel they need to kill each other… simple recipe. They even go as far as to kind of swap their roles where it felt like Glover was playing the Jolie role.. a nice refreshing twist. Simply put they could have fleshed out that last episode into2 hours and called it a sequel/reboot or 4 episodes and called this a limited series and boom… everyone is happy. Im not sure if I liked the ending, it was a strange decision. Huge cliff hanger. Making it way too deep than it needs to be. Again this is Supposed to be light hearted fun but somehow now made serious.
Bus stop show… I can’t say it’s that. I’d rather walk to my destination on this occasion. It’s a cute attempt to introduce the new school to this franchise but the original is timeless and doesn’t need it. However just name it anything else, stop the reboots. I don’t expect another season.
