Gassed Up

  • THE GAS LEVELS HERE ARE THROUGH THE ROOF!

There’s a lot going on here. So many boxes to open and so many left unopened. The movie explores Ashes positives and negatives. A young man that simply wants to provide and support his family. He has a lovely relationship with his little sister and not quite with his mother who is a drug user. So, we see this internal battle unfold as he is also a man that’s wanting for fame… aka a clout chaser. These are shown via these elaborate day dreams he tends to have. Its an interesting dynamic. Let me add Stephen brings his acting chops to the final third of the film and I must say… this wonderkid will go far.

As the story develops and our characters grow in their professions, we get an insight into each of their backgrounds and why they do what they do. We have abusive parents/guardians whose woes have trickled down through their childhood and given birth to these enraged and aggressive dudes. What I got here is a guide on how to avoid generational curses. The film touches on brotherhood, friendship, betrayal and the handling of loss and grief. My one gripe with the film is the ending. Hollywood seems to be struggling with this part of movies. They just aren’t sticking the landings like they used to. Overall, its good watch, one id save for streaming rather than the big screen as it is not something mind-blowing.

What part really gassed you up? What happened to Shaz? Is there room for a sequel here? Would this have been better as a series? React and comment below…
