Caesar is iconic. Iconic in cinema as a whole. It can’t be matched… but still KING did well to pump new life into the franchise. Well done Wes Ball. It kicks off with a nice dedicated send off to Caesar which was nice to see then its straight into it. compared to the previous the emotional impact was lessened. Most likely because the stakes were higher before with the whole end of mankind element. It’s a more straight forward story here, took my village and I come back for them. It is a good story though. There were some parts the dialogue dragged a bit where it didn’t need to and added no value but once you’re through there its smooth sailing. I liked how eagles have been added to the narrative. The bonding plot gave me Avatar vibes.
I personally loved how you man had Harambe as the villain! RIP Harambe! He was movinggggg maaaaaaddddd and the crud was lit! Eka Darville was excellent. He had more of an impact than the main villain. KING switches roles where the humans are primitives and we revisit the shock factors of them saying their first words, discovering zebras etc. the film is wrapped with the message saying we are back, its open and we can go in any direction we want.
Overall it’s a great follow up to the last trilogy. Apart from the name mention you wouldn’t need to watch the previous you can just jump in. KING takes you on an incredible journey filled with thought provoking themes, action scenes and heart warming moments. As always I would have preferred less human focus and lets get some other species of ape in the franchise. Bring in some baboons1 rafiki n them man there. It’s a must watch on the big screen!
Does the franchise need Caesar still? Where do you think the story goes next? Are you TeamNoa or TeamMae?
