There are major changes in character development. Cyclops must have the most epic redemption arc in television. He takes centre stage to the show embracing his leadership role and we see him really utilise his powers in creative ways. Magneto as leader of the xmen just makes for some amazing writing because it fills in that What IF void we had in 92 of what would happen if Mags had the xmen? Would there be full war? Or would he go the prof dream route. We get all those answers here. Returning characters like Mojo and Sinister was a nice to see. What Disney does here is it sets continuous reminders through the season that yes this is an Xmen show and its also a Marvel show. They use morph to give other marvel characters screen time like the hulk, psylock etc. the show pushes even further and gives each character adequate on screen time for development. Auntie Storm has plot around her that is just soul shattering but auntie gets her groove back. The balance with the drama, action, suspense and emotions is ultimate.
By far Xmen 97 has superior writing. The dialogue is at another level for an animation, close to Shakespearian even. Some powerful one liners that are so relatable. Xmen 97 managed to capture the same feels of the original show while also elevating the storyline. The show is near perfect! Its not reliant on nostalgia. Its actually very quality. Disney delivered! Very very recommended!
