Garfield returns to his original form. No dancing, no tough guy routine. Hates spiders, a certified foodian, hates Mondays… He’s fully my spirit animal, my role model. Only thing missing from this version, is the lack of sleep.. We would have been twins. He seems way to active for Garfield but it doesnt overshadow the character too much. There was quite a low bar to meet and this blows it out of the park. Kids loved it. We have the VAs to thank for that as they were really good. Rhames was giving me jokes.
Garfield movie was hilarious and its comedy is heavily reliant on the slapstick format. He takes quite a beating through the whole film. The story is predictable and it tries to dig into your feels but it just doesn’t quite get there. It deviates heavy from the source material and i’m referring to the comic strip. Characters like Odie are these kind of genius beings that save the day continuously, Jon is a major side character and is there to just fill in for story origins.
All in all its a lot of fun. Its a kids movie so theres loads of plot holes so that can be excused. Not the best storyline, weird villain direction but the slapstick, comedy and animation makes up for it. Garfield fans will appreciate the dedication to the source material… as for me (Next stop please) Bus stopppppppp
Do you like this direction of this character? You open to a sequel? Maybe a crossover? Who would you like to see him crossover with?
