Synopsis
Our favourite nightmare town remains as mysterious as ever. The residents desperately seek a way out while dark forces tighten their grip. This season, new threats emerge from within, complicating the already impossible task of survival.
Cast and Performances
Julia Doyle delivers a masterclass in unsettling behaviour. As Sophia, the man in the yellow suit in disguise, she hits 1000% on the creepiness scale. Aside from her, the ensemble cast feels surprisingly bland this time around. Jade remains the only true standout. His wacky energy carries scenes, though it’s hard to trust his visions when he’s constantly tripping on mushrooms.
Production
The cinematography maintains that familiar, gloomy atmosphere we expect. However, the production team missed a massive trick regarding horror elements. They traded genuine scares for slow-burn character moments. While the score remains moody, the lack of visceral shock factors feels like a wasted opportunity. Smiley still creeps me out, but the show desperately needed more teeth this year.
The Review
Pacing issues plague FROM season 4 more than ever before. The writers frontload the intensity, only to trap us in a mire of tedious filler episodes. Honestly, they could cut half the content without losing the core story. Furthermore, the finale proved exceptionally disappointing. It abandoned crucial plot threads like the Lake of Tears and Julie’s seizures without a second thought.
Logic took a holiday, too. When Elgin finds a photo of Sophia, he walks directly to her instead of alerting the leaders. It makes the characters feel dim-witted. Meanwhile, Sophia’s master plan remains baffling. She arrives with the ability to steal talismans immediately, yet she chooses aimless chaos instead. We still lack answers about the Man in Yellow versus the Boy in White. This is officially the weakest outing yet. With one season left, they must fix this mess. I just hope they manage to stick the landing after torturing us for half a decade.
