  • WE NEED MOREEEEE OF THISSSSS

I’ll tell you straight up this concept is a very dark, scary and controversial one. Some would say that’s Disney’s bread and butter but hey… my point here is if you deep the story here, we are talking about a crime group who focus on child kidnap… now these are real life problems in the world and yes they should be addressed in all mediums to be honest… but to do so in a child’s program is very, very brave… and to execute it with such class, innocence and precision for a child to digest? Fantastic work from Kugali Media! It’s a bizarre story that works. You have Tunde who is running live dangerous experiments with his child… so the Dope Black Dad in me was flaring up but we move… Bode is a solid villain and he is performed very well. He is from a poor background where he had to fend for himself and he blames the upper class for the disposition. He then has this burning desire to make them suffer as some form of plot revenge and kidnapping Tola is part of that plan. We see Tunde talk down and mistreat his staff members so in essence Bode’s view points have some truth to it. There’s actually a moral challenge to pick a side which is quite cool.

The genuine feel of African culture mixed with the futuristic nature was very good. The accents are strong with the added lingo mixed with the Yoruba lines… by the end you will all be super eagles sef! There was a scene where a mother and her son enter a room and they are offered a drink… the son looks at his mum for approval before accepting… these are deep rooted memories that the show really played with.

It’s a really good show and its cool to see Disney taking such risks with other indie companies. Definitely recommend it as the kids really enjoyed getting to know these characters. 6 episodes… hoping for more seasons and more similar stories.

Here’s a fun fact:  Walt Disney Animation Studios chief creative officer Jennifer Lee read an article on BBC about Kugali Media, a British-based company founded by African artists, saying that they wanted to “kick Disney’s arse”. Intrigued by the company’s desire to create and tell African stories, she approached them to develop together an original long-form science fiction animated project. So guys I’m tell you now… get online and talk your shit! You never know who’s listening!

Did you enjoy this show? Would you like to see a season 2? Were you also dribbling over the food?
