Don’t be fooled! Don’t let the nickelodeon logo at the beginning fool you, this is not a kids show! I was fooled… till I saw the 1st person get burnt to a crisp just like that… my kids were sent away instantly! Then later we are introduced to demons and spirits and now I’m in my house a bit shook myself lol.
There was a lot of story here to play with, even some that differ from the source material. Aang this time around had the ability to embody past avatars and use their powers which was a nice touch. The exploration of the relationships in this show is where it really flourishes. The dynamics between Zuko and Iroh with their crew members and also the main trio as they overcome their personal tropes with each other. Although we meet the big bad numerous times he seems to be far away to meeting our characters so we are graced by the legendary Jun Tao… real name Ken Leung who plays commander Zhao and bro was just born to play villains. He’s so fitting. The season ended well leaving loads of room for expansion but as of this recording no confirmation of a new season.
his show had a low bar to work from… it just had to be better than Shyamalan’s version to get the win and it did that. Still few kinks to workout around CGI and performances but there was enough to enjoy here.
In summary its worth a watch, if you haven’t seen the animation, start with this show before you go to that to avoid disappointment because the animation by far wins in all departments. Core fans I believe will enjoy it.
Did you enjoy this new live adaptation? Do you want a season 2 greenlit? Were these characters done justice for you compared to the show?
