Batman Caped Crusader is hands down a tribute to the original Batman animated series. It pays big big homage to it all. From animation style to music. They pay full respects with his somewhat of a revival. This version of Batman returns to his basic natural state… aka COME and Catch these handssssss!! Minimal gadgets, hella slaps! He’s more on the detective side, figuring out plans, breaking and entering etc. The Batmobile makes for a sleek, simple and cool design. He does have help in the form of Alfred and Lucious Fox.
So let’s talk about those major changes I mentioned in characters. Jim and Barbabra Gordon… are now black! Say something if you’re bad! An asian Harley Quin, Penguin is a female (I think) and she’s on smoke with no hesitancy killing one of her sons, like raahhhh. In other cartoons they allude to deaths but in this even though there’s no gore there are straight killings on screen. BCC uses a fully optimized grounded approach. When I say grounded, think Scooby Doo. Bad guy seems supernatural then Batman investigates then explains it all uncovering the brains behind the operation. All villains are as human as they come, it’s towards the latter episodes then it starts to get DC. Gets quite dark to be honest with blood rituals and dark magic. Story focuses on the corruption of the police force and I liked how Harvey Dent plays a huge role through the whole season and his changes make for some really good tv.
Overall it’s a must watch for me and Prime Video did well to secure it. It has something for the new school and it will definitely keep the old school happy with the mountains of nostalgia. It had this deep episode based around therapy that I loved so much. Its 10 episodes of crooks catching handssss what could go wrong and with that tease in the finale? Stream this bad boy and lets get that season 2 plsssss!
