Four friends embark on a wild weekend getaway in 72 Hours, expecting the ultimate bonding trip. Instead, absolute pandemonium hits them hard from every possible direction. Kevin Hart leads the charge with his usual high-energy antics, whilst the supporting ensemble brings mixed energy. Marcelo Hernandez, Kam Patterson, and Ben Marshall stand out brilliantly. Indeed, these rising stars deserve our attention as the future of comedy, especially given their stellar SNL work. Furthermore, a few surprise cameos keep viewers intrigued, though even these famous faces cannot rescue the picture.
Production
Cinematographers lean heavily on bright, glossy palettes, mimicking typical streaming algorithms. Meanwhile, the soundtrack blasts generic hip-hop tracks to manufacture artificial excitement. Occasional animated inserts pop up sporadically, adding brief bursts of visual flair to otherwise mundane sequences.
Review
Anyone expecting a male-centric version of Girls Trip will face severe disappointment immediately. The script feels rushed and lazy, leaving most punchlines falling totally flat. Sadly, the humour targets teenage boys who mistakenly believe shouting and drinking equals comedy.
Moreover, the movie lacks substance, coherence, and logic throughout its runtime. The Ricardo alter ego stuff starts out quite funny before directors completely overcook the bit. Predictable slapstick drags on endlessly, turning genuinely boring very quickly.
Character development remains practically non-existent from start to finish. Ultimately, this feels like a typical Netflix formulaic comedy churned out for quick views. Yet, viewers may still find a relaxed atmosphere and a few genuine chuckles. Cast members clearly enjoyed filming together, creating an easygoing vibe.
Do not go into this expecting a masterpiece, because it is just light, enjoyable fun. Ultimately, it remains a forgettable watch and a massive missed opportunity.
