Presumed Innocent

Presumed Innocent is based of a 1987 novel and this is the 2nd time its been displayed on the screen. The first was movie starring Harrison Ford and the creators clearly understand you can only have a big boy sit in that lead role. PI follows the investigation of a very gruesome murder, i mean they got real creative and messy without saying anything because they want to test you viewer, see how twisted your mind can get. The thriller element runs deep and it pushes you to the edge where you got to ask yourself who actually did this? Its off the back of copy cat killer so that makes it more questionable. Rusty takes up this case only to later find out he was involved with the victim and then now a suspect. Then its revealed they were romantic and all sorts. It goes maaaaaaadddd. With all this going on they still manage to fit in some other heavy story lines exploring politics, marriage, adultery, generational cycles and just how heart breaks can really drive a person insane. I would know ooo i would know! I didnt murder anyone or nothing like that, let me just stop. all this drives up the tension within the family also making for some good dialogue between parents and kids.

Its a fantastic show and another entry by AppleTV confirming they are the powerhouse thye set out to be. PI does well with Jakes character being so volatile and unpredictable. You can see that this guy can snap at any point. One thing i wanted to see more of was Renate Reinsve character. She’s shown more in flashbacks but she didnt give much of her personality away. Would be good to know if she was like fully innocent or troublesome… not to say she deserved to die or anything… ok leme stop. They emphasise or the importance of racism and it had this line which hit hard… the couple are speaking and Barbara says to Rusty “you forget your son is black” that hit hard!

I fully recommend this show. Its 8 episodes of utter drama, plot twists and excitement. Despite such a dier theme it will keep you locked in.

Have you read the book? Have you seen the movie? Which did you prefer? Was there many changes? Have you signed the petition for Jakes Oscar?
