IF caught me off guard. I can fully admit that. I was expecting a story of good vs bad IFs with the humans being at risk… you know the cliche plot point. Thought it would be predictable. It wasnt. IF has a lot of ideas that just dont land fully. It starts very slow, most will find it boring i would call it development but it does drag quite a bit with few funny moments in between but its the final third that brings the landing. IF has so much heart. So much expected heart i might add. The music played a big part in that. It was so wholesome. Maybe had your boy a lil teary eyed… I aint you crying you are!
The IFs were well designed, very creative. My faves were the marshmallow, the bubbles. Just so different. Where it fell short was the stakes. There werent any. There was supposed to be this big race against time factor but at no point did it feel like being a problem. It also felt like the marketing was misleading in the sense that the IFs kind of take a back seat with little screen time. The climax was satisfying, nice little twist to round it all up.
Overall IF is John Krasinski showcasing to the world to say i can do it all, including kids movies. I always get the impression hes a bit of a big kid so even his role in this was nice to see. I cant say your kids are going to enjoy this today but what i will guarantee is they will when they get a little older and rewatch or remember it. As an adult, it was decent for me. Great message behind it all. I do think it ends here and has no room to branch out into a franchise.
Who was you favourite IF? Do you think we could do with a sequel or even a few sequels? Did you cry? Dont lie!
