Fan service is served here from beginning to end. The action, the settings, the music, the appearances… all top notch! Deadpool & Wolverine is an absolute blast, fully embracing its R-rating at every opportunity. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman clearly had a fantastic time making it, and their enjoyment is palpable. You can visually see the joy in their aura! That set must have been super super lit! Even if you’re not a Marvel enthusiast, you’ll find it incredibly entertaining. The sole purpose here was to have fun, and that they did and in turn meant I did too… so mission accomplished!
The first 10 min action, laughs and entertainment… 2nd half gasps, cheers, tears and screams… 3rd act was a bit meh. It’s not without flaws; the villains could have been stronger, and the story lacks the emotional depth I had hoped for especially as it anchors of the back Logan which was quite deep. Although it still offers character development. Cassandra was a good villain but I expected an all out brawl with the big bad, then some smart.
All in all, at times, the relentless humor and violence might feel overdone, but overall, it’s just so much fun. My thoughts, yes Deadpool is in the MCU but instead of having him embedded in the main saga storylines have him take on these little side stories. I dont want the tone of his films toned down to fit these other narratives. Let me have the option of serious film and fun film. Let Deadpool be what Thor was to the previous phases, the comic relief and get Thor back in the lab as a non comedy god level hero on smoke. Its a good entry for Marvel. Its the building blocks to say we have listened and now the signing of the Russo brothers is a statement to say we have been listening. This is a must watch in the cinema, IMAX, screen X, SuperScreen! Choose one!! Marvel is back so in the words of Marvel Jesus… Lets FFFKING GOOOOOO!!!
Who was your favourite cameo? Is Marvel back on the scene? One Marvel movie this year, thats it? Are you happy with it? Do you feel Deadpool should lead the new phase?
