Alien: Romulus is a solid entry and I absolutely loved it. It worked as an excellent bridge connection between the nostalgia of the old films and lore seeking narrative of the latest entries. Alien: Romulus cleverly combines eerie tension, excitement, and stunning visuals without delving into unnecessary bloodshed or violence. What I loved most about this time around, the Ovipositors take centre stage. What are those you say… you will know them as the face huggers! These guys were activeeeeee!!! From swimming to sound detection, they starred heavily as opposed to their usual sort of cameos. I loved it… my screams would have told you otherwise though. Alien: Romulus is a tight knit ship, pun intended… small cast meaning not many kills but very creative and effective for that energetic horror showcase. How many times have we seen the chest bursting, who would have thought they could have made something we have seen a million times so much better… that Xray machine scene… messsyyyyy! Rooks inclusion was a nice touch but the terrible CGI made him unbearable. Rain pulled off the bad ass Ripley vibes handling the action scenes like a pro so shout out to Cailee.
Overall its a return to basics and what we loved about Aliens. Yes we like the lore seeking Prometheus/Covenant journeys but sometimes lets just put folks in a confined space and let the hunt flow. Its a clear fan service entree and you can tell Fede Alvarez is a genuine fan. He honed in on the core elements and delivered. It wasnt too long in regards to runtime and the pacing worked. Its not the greatest story and I wasnt a fan of the abrupt ending with lack of cliffhanger. The stakes also werent very high, it was a case of survival which isnt a bad thing. The final act did up the creepy to extra levels though… I dont give a neck what anyone says.. I want to see Rain again, I want to see Andy… I want to see Fede! Recommended watch!
Did you enjoy this entry? Isn’t it about time the face huggers got their screen time? Do you prefer this format of Aliens or you all for the story lore stuff?
