Zoe Kravitz’s debut as a director and writer I’d say… good job! She can keep going. She took some risks, some worked and some didn’t. However she should be proud. She produced one of the surprising and entertaining flicks of 2024. I was lucky enough to experience the shock plot by going to an early screening so I wasn’t hit with the warning message going around… don’t know if it’s marketing or… but it’s a big giveaway. Zoe does well to keep us locked and engaged. It’s not the most surprising reveal but it has good dramatic build up with minor details that keep the questions coming. It’s a thriller but there’s quite a bit of humor applied all throughout. The eerie atmosphere coupled with these blazay but interesting characters makes for a good combo. You lot will praise Zoe for excellent writing but how do we know this is not some reenactment from the Epstein stuff? Has anyone actually checked on sis?
Blink Twice does have some flaws with some undercooked character development plots. You never really get to understand why all of this is going on. You expect big names like Christian Slater and co to have some huge impact on the story but na they are just there. A lot of them are very forgettable. As dark as the story is, they aim to leave a lot of the madness to your imagination which works for some and not so much for others. We do feel pity for these characters but even if not shown would have added to the tension knowing how bad the situation was and again how and why we got here…
Overall I liked Blink Twice. It fits well into the mystery genre but when you have seen so many movies it’s easy to find things predictable. What did catch me off guard was that terrible ending. We need to do better, we see good beginnings, great middles then it’s like writers fall asleep towards the end. It was lazy and didn’t have the wow factor yall thought it would… Do better!
Did you enjoy the movie? Was this a good debut for Zoe? Would you like a sequel of this film?
