The chemistry between Lupita and Joseph really helped to easily sell these characters to us. They complimented each other. At 2 different stages of life, one close to the end and the other trying to start up. Their stories combining brought heart and their connection you get to witness in its wholeness. It’s a different direction from what we are used to, families who feel they owe each other to sacrifice whilst here its 2 strangers. Reset your expectations because this film, this director set out on his own journey to make this his own, and he succeeded. It is a prequel and I do feel if this film was released first then it wouldn’t feel so rocky. My own problem with this film is… I still have the same questions! I even now have more questions in fact. What do these aliens want? Why do they all have built in super beats air pods as brains? Where did they come from? If you also came for these answers, I’m afraid you won’t get them. You’re going to have to wait for A quiet place, ground zero… that’s not official but I’m throwing it out there, John, we need to know.
Epic scenes, crazy tension build up, few jump scares, deep emotional performances… its an excellent film. Paramount needs to focus on this universe they have built and continue its trajectory, it’s in a Good Place, I mean A Quiet Place… I mean a quiet place is in a good space. Cinema worthy for sure!
