The hunt for the perfect caped crusader continues. We either have a good Bruce Wayne and rubbish Batman or vice versa… this time round we have an excellent Batman and terrible Bruce… in saying that I understand we are dealing with a year 2 Batman so it could be a case where the playboy persona is yet to develop. To add, the full on Batman himself isn’t here as I laughed a bit to see he was scared of heights (blink and you’ll miss it) and he was yet to perfect his superhero landing 😅 but emo Bruce wasn’t doing it for me. This is definitely not a comic book movie, it’s a graphic novel brought to life. Drawing heavy from the Long Halloween storyline (scroll down for KenKenReviews review) it brings high drama/thriller elements.
It’s a grim and gloomy atmosphere through it all including even the daytime shots. Everything feels so grounded and relatable and that for me was a big selling point. His gadgets felt analogue, his combat very rough and gritty, each punch feeling impactful, at no point do you feel superman or green lantern could show up in this world, not in this movie anyway. Casting was excellent. Robert was a brilliant Batman in which you could feel his outright anger and why he’s doing what he’s doing. Colin, Zoe, Jeffery, Paul all nailed their roles and happy to see we will be seeing them in the near future.
A full on detective movie, a unique and epic display of detective Batman, an insight into the dark side of the DC universe. Matt has delivered. Like The Joker movie this should be kept in its own universe.
What did you think of Rob as Batman? Where do you think the story goes next? Who do you want as the next villain? Agree or disagree?
