Picks up exactly where season 1 ends… as they board the train. Epic movie overall. Action was excellent and visuals were flawless. Our first time seeing one of the Hashira in full action and even though could be our last time seeing Rengoku this movie really allows us to connect with him. Somewhere it lacks is in its villain. The series has a formula in which even the villains have a backstory and layers to them. For some reason that was skipped over for Enmu… his power, his aesthetic and his motive was all very cool but no usually story as to how he came to be. Rengoku was the star of the film. His design, animation, effects all well put together.
The climax of the initial villain of the movie is lucklustre, weak and I can even say poor. It is then quickly redeemed with an extra climatic boss fight which is an epic battle and worth watching alone. Although felt disconnected from the narrative of the movie.
One thing that stands out and I absolutely love about this movie is that it is directly tied to the show and is absolute canon. Most anime movies are stand alone story lines which in essence mean absolutely nothing to series story arcs.
I will say watch the series before this movie, it’s a good show and this movie will make more sense. It’s a must watch… although Broly still holds the crown for me ☺️ very close second.
