A story of grief, love, discovery, friendship, brotherhood, shame… the list goes on. There is a message in here for every one and to be honest it’s what makes the show good and bad. Firstly the cast… the cast has aged magnificently! Harold is the eldest and actually looks the best at 59! Whilst Melissa is the eldest female at 55 and also looks super well. This was a showcase/stunting exhibition for the young ladies to tell y’all “we are 50+ look at us, we are fabulous”. It was just missing a Janet Jackson to complete the Female Over 50s Beauty Avengers ? I don’t know if it was part of the plan of like “guys look after yourself we are going to make another outing in 10 years time”. They all looked very good.
The format and transitions of scenes didn’t sit well with me. Didn’t feel seamless. It was show scene then sharp cut to black, then next scene. It threw off the pacing for me but it won’t exactly worry the average eye. Just a strange choice of editing I observed. It was a strange choice also to turn the movie franchise into a series. My fear when it was announced was that the plots will drag and there will be too many fillers. Unfortunately KenKen was right ?
Show begins exactly where it left off in the last movie. It wastes no time in recapping and throws us straight into the drama. The show starts with a bang! Taking place at a lovely location. Crazy story plots, lots of drama, fresh well delivered comedy and strong acting chops on display. For me the 1st 2 episodes, both 1 hour long, could have been put together and made into a movie and just called a sequel. I’d have been happy and called it a success. They were so fleshed out and gave viewers who are not familiar with the franchise an insight into each characters dynamic. The way the first 2 episodes start and end feel like a proper sequel where it gives us the familiar viewers the closure we needed from Terrence and Melissa’s characters with the big reveal at the end of episode 2. When the show moves back to the city in episode 3, that’s when the show becomes very mediocre. The drama, the flare, the excitement dries up from there. The show takes a dive into the classic plot of following Taye’s dramatic developments of sucking everyone into his dramas. We do love to see it.
Harold and Regina are comedic value with Terrence in assistance. There are lots and lots of jokes here. They were delivered brilliantly. Now Nia is an amazing actress but I struggled to accept she was occupying the “I’m the single friend” role. She is toooo fine to be that. Besides that her individual story arcs felt empty and hollow, added no value to the overall show. She was a filler character at most, moving very “dick dumb” even ? She was appreciated when intertwined with the others stories. Morris put on a good display. He was my more relatable character in the sense of balancing finding his purpose, dealing with grief and managing being a parent, all while looking for new love.
The writing takes a big blow half way through the show with a lot of empty fillers, predictable storylines and a very lacklustre anti climatic ending. It suffers so badly that it results to going back to the plot of the 1st movie and trying to revive it. It fails badly but manages to stay up and afloat to get us through. Special shoutout to Ghana labelled the motherland… and shito getting the highlight! Its about to go global LOL.
I enjoyed the show. Obviously big nostalgia reasons but that aside there’s a feel good factor in the show. Some strong messages here, something for everyone and I believe the big range of characters is designed that way for each viewer to find a bit of themselves in one or numerous of the characters. To feel relatable. I’d recommend a binge cuddled up on the sofa, its a joyous and graceful ride.

This is a great production will definitely recommend.
I really enjoyed the series. I’m glad they did this instead of a two hour movie. It was a great closure to the two movies.
Firsst of all, I love how all the day 1 cast members are in this series. Definitely aging gracefully. I love how episode 1 continues from the last movie…
The whole Quinten and Shelby story…i mean, gosh! Finally!
Lance I love that he finally finds some grounding and the woman he needs, Jasmine 😍
Robyn, I like her character. I feel like I’m her in some ways. Kind hearted, thinks about others often before herself, passionate about her culinary skills…👌🏾
Jordan, we all know someone like Jordan, Single, no kids, workin 24/7 & probably desires the ppl dems man STILL 😆…Harper 🙄
Murch & Candice…they kept it real, gave me jokes lol.
I dislike the scene change, is there really a reason for a blackout? 😅
BUT I like how it addresses curent issues which most families, friendship or relationship may experience. The “Karens” scene got me 😅 and some more. Overall a good entertainment with some laughs.
Good watch and good way to wrap up the movies!
