The Witcher: Blood Origin

  • With Henry Cavill giving us 1 more season as Geralt, we get a new run out with new characters

I loved the angle they took with this from the jump. Somehow managing to pull through everyones bard into a prequel story and still make it make sense in a fantasy kind of make it make sense, sense.

With just 4 episodes the show does well in fleshing out their heroes, with a whole intro and backstory, giving them each a little segment with enough info for you the viewer to decide who you want to follow. Their journey for gathering a squad though is way to simple for my liking, could have done a bit more with it. My favourite being the dwarf. Was saddened that she’s introduced quite late in the show, she is brill actor and I felt her storyline the most as short as it was, no pun intended ? it’s an origin story of how the first Witcher was created.

Lenny Henry continues to pop up any and everywhere fantasy. Cementing his place in the history books as King Fantasy. He’s good in these roles. The acting is decent across the board. The new actors, trending actors along with the legendary actors make for a good blend.

The show does not lack on gore and blood. The violence is at a high volume. The combat and action is flawless. Straight out of the original

series handbook. With every hit, slice, thud, the sound is emphasised very well. Netflix wants to establish themselves as chieftains of hallway fight scenes as they attempt another, which isn’t great but okayish I’ll say. The final climatic scenes were piss poor and just seemed like a rush to get the show over and done with. I expected a lot more. The romantic chemistry for our antagonists wasn’t felt, although the chemistry as a clan was definitely well executed.

I enjoyed the show overall. Despite the mediocre special effects, some terrible acting at some parts it kept me engaged. A lot of it had to do with the characters, some top notch dialogue with some witty funny exchanges topped with excellent combat choreography, shameless gore and a not so bad origin story. The emphasis on family, team work, brotherhood I loved. The whole band of unlikely individuals coming together. I’d recommend a quick binge. My fandom of the games definitely helped keep me locked. If you’re familiar with the franchise you will get the huge huge Easter eggs left behind.

Now make like our merry warriors and as they quoted numerous times “Send them to clay”!
