Chaning Tatum’s cameo appearances are starting to become a thing lol always pops up as some form of sexual deviant sex pest… find them hilarious cos they do catch me off guard… now we can talk about the film ?
At the tender age of 59 years old… Brad is still brilliant Brad. All I see is the sizzling, rugged, handsome and chiselled Mr. Smith. Still agile, mobile, strong and showing no signs of slowing down any time soon. His role depicts somewhat of an origin story of Marvels Domino. A man full of bizarre and absurd lucky streaks of life. However follow his character closely and you will find most of luck isn’t actually luck, he actually navigates these scenarios… and that my friends is just one story arc, 1st of many. Movie is filled with many brilliant characters with an amazing star studded cast. One of my favourite characters being “The Bottle”. I will say no more LOL.
For whatever creative design choice everyone seemed to have an accent. The accents are hilarious and add to the already high comedic value on display. Lemon and Tangerine, great character designs and loveable characters… probably the highlight of the film. Very well utilised with stand out performances by Aaron and Brian. The setting being in Japan gives the movie an anime feeling, topped with the use of hand to hand and sword combat… we would watch it all via animation if recreated. Not to mention the epic soundtrack to maximise the action packed scenes.
The movie makes great use of the flashback mechanic. With such a short runtime it manages to flesh out all these bright and dynamic characters with their origins and motives through the whole film. Its brilliant. Through this tool they are able to engage the audience with all these plot twist and turns in how each character has intertwined with each other at some point in life. It’s so well done. It can feel complex at times story wise, where if you blink you could miss something important which won’t add up for you later on but because does well to keep you engaged I didn’t have this issue.
Let’s talk on the action. Movie doesn’t shy away from gore and creativity. With each character having a unique set of skill techniques there’s a lot on display and it’s all enjoyable. The final act is jam packed and I loved it. Felt a bit rushed story wise but the big names on display held their own in the scenes and made it worthwhile.
The irony that I watched this film on a plane added to the heightened feeling in my seat (pun intended). It’s a fun ride that provides a quick burst of action, jokes and story. It’s not something that needs a sequel but it’s definitely one to watch.
