Napoleon

  • THE YEAR OF THE WAR CRIMINALS CONTINUES!

I loved it from beginning to end. What helped me is that I didn’t know much of the historical figure so I couldn’t place any judgment on what was historically accurate or not so I was able to just enjoy what was in front of me. I had no idea how heavily romantic driven this character was and it was a joy to watch. I was pleasantly surprised to see a more personal side of him, including his love life and his motivations. The film does a great job of showing how complicated Napoleon was and gives us some new insight to his rise to conqueror. Film touches on marriage, loyalty and betrayal. The narrative of how sex is viewed in these times from different angles was engaging. One side saw it as tool for reproduction and the other viewed it as a source of comfort and passion. The court/parliament scenes were hilarious. I don’t know how true but a man could flip and everyone in there will just rush him lol. Now picture being in the house of commons and Rishi… let me stop.

With an almost 3 hour run time which is chock full of pure engaging entertainment you don’t feel the run time. The way the story is told though for large parts I was wondering how would this end? What are we building up to? The ending was satisfying, for me. Was a great history lesson and if they played this movie in my history class… guaranteed A star!

Were there any surprises for you? Were you fully up to date with his story? Would you sign up to be the drummer at war? Unarmed? Leave your thoughts in the comments and let’s discuss…
