These movies are if Stephen Strange had a one night stand with Asian twins 😅
These movies are based on a video game/novel however these 2 movies are not connected. They are iterations of 2 separate stories told in the same fictional universe. A world of which humans and demons exist but are usually at war. Both iterations follow a character named Qingming who is half human/demon and is usually tasked with unifying the 2 groups. It’s the typical outcast that saves the world formula. Then you have Boya who is a human and tasked with destroying demons. They cross paths and then… u get the picture!

This movie is the traditional hero saves the world. Action is brilliant and has memorable characters that keep you engaged. A lot of excellent plot twists with a good villain. This iteration has a more comedic essence. Excellent story nonetheless.
(Ying-Yang Master: Dream of Eternity)
This is more a murder mystery type movie. Highly enjoyable. More tension, more suspense, a lot more plot twists with twists and turns. Has a more serious tone with brilliant action scenes. Epic story attached.
Both have excellent settings. Very vibrant and bright… adding value to all its scenes. All in all these movies are proof our favourite animes can be made into excellent live action movies which are true to the source material. The CGI has a cheesy element but I feel that adds to the quality. Just leave it with Chinese studios and don’t give it to Hollywood 🙄 if you’re a big fan of Chinese cinema, martial arts, fantasy… these movies are a must. They were released weeks apart. Well done Netflix 🥳 would definitely like to see this universe unified and developed further.
