his is a movie about Stannis Baratheon chasing that melanin 😂😅… I joke. In true critic fashion we must celebrate another Black British movie that isn’t centred around gang violence or police drama. We actually stepped out the box and gave a fresh take… to be honest it didn’t fall short. It’s a fun Xmas movie which delivers on its ultimate goal of being a heart warming joy ride. Although predictable it doesn’t take away from the journey. The music associated was one of the highlights and Leigh Anne was brilliant in her first acting gig. However I can’t help but feel like this was some form of audition/demo to let us know of her upcoming solo projects etc. good on her nonetheless. Some very fun, energetic characters and some hilarious one liners. This movie captures that feel good xmas spirit. There were some non memorable plot points which felt shoe horned in but were clearly used as fillers to increase the run time. The cheese force is heavy with this one but again that is the goal of these rom coms. Well done also to AML on his debut directing.
It’s a fresh take and hope to see more attempts at stepping out into more exciting categories.
Due to its predictability it failed to pull on my heart strings and I’m such a softy ☺️ an enjoyable movie non the less. It will make for a popular Netflix date night choice.
Line of the movie: “You Hollywood Bastard” 😂
