The Acolyte

The story was unique, thats the term i’m going to use. There was a lot of surprises which viewers complained about but if you take your time and deep it… it just werent your typical Star Wars tropes. Its set in the Republic Era. Now on paper it makes perfect Star Wars drama. There is an assassin who is going around killing jedi with no weapons? Sign me up quickly!

The key elements are the writing and directing, with a particular emphasis on the writing. The issue with this series, as with many others, is the inconsistency in its writers. Some are talented, while others are not. For that reason the story is all over the place and thats why you see the uproar and its justified. The jedi are made out to be just deranged monks with a police badge going around snatching kids from lesbian space witches. The child actors were grinding my gears as they were terrible… thats right anybody can get it on this channel! There some highs not many but a few. We had one of the best jedi fights we have seen in a while and thats due to Dafne Keen bringing that X23 energy! Really liked her character. As well as the villain who was a savage with it all. There was some good camera work in which there are 2 jedi fights taking place in 2 different locations and the edits switch between them simultaneously which was pretty good.

All in all it had the Star wars ingredients, story around revenge, family, redemption. The story felt like it needed more time and direction otherwise theres a lot of potential there. osha and Mae were forgettable as their story was bland and not very moving. The action was good, the kung fu mixed with jedi fighting made for some spectacles. Some great characters who were just put together for no avail. Cheesy dialogue, bad writing and a poor story leaves it very short. Most of the review bombs are due to this show not having a protagonist that looks like them… get over it! I want a season 2 as I want to see these characters used right.

Did you enjoy this show? Who was your favorite character? Were you happy with that finale? Do you want to see season 2? Are you down with the Crouching Jedi Hidden Acolyte feel?

  1. I mean this review is riddled with terrible grammar so…. I’m just gonna say yikes and maybe find a new hobby that doesn’t involve sucking up to crappy tv shows that are ruining legitimate programming.

    Thanks.

  2. Checking a box to say you got your racial or gender hire has nothing to do with good writing. Forcing that trope into every show nowadays days is honestly insulting and congrats, you fell for it.
