If Toy Story had Chucky amongst its crew and if Andy was replaced by the girl from Orphan… You get Model 3 Generative Android. This was a good movie let me put that out there from early. It had its shortcomings but we will get into that.
We follow a woman who I imagine would be named Mrs Tony Stark if she was in the MCU because she definitely knows her robotics. I immediately connected with her and felt her pain especially when they were opening her collectibles! The rage in me ?? It’s a fairly short film which wastes no time in getting to the nitty gritty. A small cast of characters, which for me was a road block. I wanted more characters so I could watch this dolly go HAAAAMMMM around the block lol. I was also hoping for a “regicide showing” but unfortunately the story is quite predictable. When we are slowly introduced to characters you can immediately see who’s going to die and who’s not, dog lovers look away now! The pacing was decent and yet I still found the film to be too short for my liking.
It follows your typical story of greedy companies trying to make millions off the back of us poor folk and also at our expense. Steps are skipped to quicken getting paid so then lives are lost. Surprisingly there’s a deeper story here which I actually took away from. It centre’s around “what not to do as a parent”. Heavy display of neglect, abandonment and mistreatment of children. It takes a deeper dive of exploring the factors around attachment theory which I resonated heavily with. There was comedy involved which gave the movie a light touch which will keep you engaged. Minimal jump scares and not very creative murders lessened the excitement whilst watching. It was interesting to see there was no plot armour for anyone including kids.
Last but not least let’s talk about the start of the show, M3gan. Would have loved her to carry the Gen Z mantle of being their version of Chucky as a whole franchise. Theres always room for sequels so let’s see how this one pans out. She was solid, witty, chilling, funny and sinister. Found her to be very random which just added to her humour and charm. Her overall plan for Jen was sick, twisted and at the same time very creative.
I liked the film, cinema worthy? Maybe not. I will definitely recommend a watch via the streaming services when it’s released. M3gan is one to experience at least once even for the non horror fans.
Do you want to see more M3gan? Sequels? Be honest, how many parts did you jump at? Do you suffer from attachment theory? React and comment below…
Getting involved this weekend
This film confirmed my reasons as to why we do not need robots about!!!!
