Lovers Actually

What if Love Actually took a shot of espresso, swore loudly, and dragged the audience on stage?

Lovers Actually is a wild, unfiltered parody of Love Actually, smashing together the iconic rom-com’s storylines with cheeky sketches, unexpected musical numbers, and jokes so outrageous you’ll question if you walked into the right theatre. Built like a comedy anthology, each segment feels like its own little world of chaos—and that’s part of the charm… and occasionally part of the problem.

This cast came to play.
Joseph Beach absolutely steals scenes with the Liam-Neeson-Taken-inspired bits—pure comedic gold, and easily my favourite running gag of the night. Holly Sumpton’s Donald Trump impression? Shockingly accurate, disturbingly funny, and perfectly delivered. Martha Pothen and Ross Clifton shine with real chemistry, grounding the madness with genuine warmth.

And because it’s that kind of show, the cast doesn’t just break the fourth wall—they obliterate it. Crowd interaction is a key ingredient, and sitting in the front row meant I got swept right into the nonsense (whoop whoop!). The improv, especially around the occasional prop mishaps, only made the show funnier. Nothing kills the momentum—these performers adapt like comedy ninjas.

For a small studio stage, Lovers Actually is shockingly well-designed. Every inch of space is used, and the compact setting becomes part of the humour itself—almost feeling like an extra cast member. Quickfire wardrobe changes are executed with ridiculous precision; honestly, Olympic-level speed.

The musical numbers? Surprisingly strong. Proper vocals, strong harmonies, and comedic timing so sharp it could shave your eyebrows off. The lighting, pacing, and overall energy keep things buzzing, even when the sketch-to-sketch transitions don’t totally flow together.

As a parody anthology, the story doesn’t exactly glide smoothly—more like joyful chaos stitched together with jokes about EastEnders, Harry Potter, and a whole buffet of dirty humour. And let me emphasise: this show is dirty. Deliciously dirty. I went in blind, got blindsided by the filth, and honestly? I respect the commitment. Every naughty punchline lands.

Does the plot differ from the original film? Absolutely. Does it matter? Absolutely not. You’ll be too busy laughing, clapping, or being hauled into a bit to care.

The only real negative is the choppy structure between sketches—but the sheer fun, improv energy, and fearless performances make up for it tenfold. Lovers Actually is messy, filthy, and ridiculously entertaining… just like the best kind of night out.
