Devil May Cry Season 2 is finally here. War has finally erupted between Earth and the underworld. Dante finds himself caught in a brutal cross-dimensional conflict while grappling with deep-seated family trauma. Consequently, the stakes feel heavier than ever as the human world burns.
The Powerhouse Cast
All the returning cast are fantastic Devil May Cry Season 2. Graham McTavish absolutely steals the show as Arius. He brings a sinister, mischievous edge that makes the character far more menacing than his video game counterpart. Furthermore, we are blessed by the legendary Keith David, whose vocal presence is pure authority. While we mourn the late Tony Todd, his performance here serves as a hauntingly beautiful farewell to a legend.
The Spectacle and Sound
Studio Mir is rapidly climbing the animation ladder. The sword combat is slick, and they use a distinctive colour palette to drive the narrative visually. Dante owns the loud reds, while Vergil’s scenes bleed a cold, calculated blue. However, the 3D demon forms still feel a bit “meh” compared to the gorgeous 2D drawings. Thankfully, the soundtrack is top-tier. Evanescence shines with a mix of new and old tracks that perfectly capture the show’s gothic essence.
The Review
This season prioritises psychological warfare over mindless slashing. While the action is relentless, the real meat lies in the jealousy and differing philosophies of the two brothers. Vergil is constantly “aura farming,” and his presence on screen is genuinely intimidating.
We finally witness the introduction of the Ebony and Ivory pistols. The sheer “rude” energy of that scene literally makes the female characters’ jaws drop. Additionally, the dialogue is ridiculously awesome, with every line dripping in cool. The writers even tucked in brilliant Capcom Easter eggs for the eagle-eyed fans. Despite the heavy themes, the show maintains its balance with perfectly timed comical elements. Ultimately, the finale delivers emotional debris and a climatic fight that leaves me begging for season three. Full recommend Devil May Cry Season 2, Netflix have a gem on their hands that can keep going.
