Are you ready for the weirdest film of the year? I Love Boosters takes the crown.
Synopsis
In I Love Boosters, a ragtag group of luxury shoplifters targets a high-fashion icon to reclaim their stolen ideas. However, their chaotic heist quickly spirals out of control.
Cast & Performances
Keke Palmer delivers a solid performance as usual, steering the madness with total commitment. Yet, Will Poulter completely steals the show in a surprisingly brief role. Meanwhile, LaKeith Stanfield leaves you entirely bewildered. His strange portrayal stems from terrible writing, especially the bizzare decision to turn his character into a literal demon. Sadly, the film expects us to root for lead characters who simply lack depth and charm.
Production & Style
Visually, the film pops with a gorgeous, vibrant colour palette and wildly inventive fashion design. The quirks stretch dynamically across the dialogue, outrageous costumes, and zany aesthetic choices. Furthermore, the genuine comedy leans heavily into authentic, laugh-out-loud slapstick moments. Unfortunately, the technical execution stumbles elsewhere. The film desperately lacks tight editing and refined screenplay structure to hold its wild artistic style together.
Review
I Love Boosters throws everything at the wall, blending science fiction, comedy, crime, adventure, and even horror. While mixing genres isn’t inherently bad, the execution fails here. The film tries so hard to be creative that it entirely loses the audience.
Visually and stylistically, it mirrors Sorry to Bother You, but its political themes and manic satire lack profound depth. While the central heist scenes feel fun and clever initially, they quickly become repetitive. Yes, you read that right: there is literally a pussy-sucking demon in this movie.
The narrative wastes several genuinely great premises. For instance, exploring Corvette’s emotional trauma or anchoring the story on Corvette and Sade’s friendship could have saved the film. Instead, this disjointed mess misses the mark and will not make the cultural impact it desires.
