“T-T-Told him, “Wear a shirt gotta’ look the part”, Then I dropped him a key, a little push to start!”
As per tradition, Nines delivers another short film to compliment his new album. It’s a sequel however this time it’s bigger and superior to its predecessors.
We follow Nines again as he’s forced back into the grasp of a drug kingpin’s umbrella and after a few mishaps the drama ensues. With the help of his young buck Lightz they swivel their way back to the top of the food chain.
The production here is at a high level. From the setting, dialogue, cinematography to music placements. The “hood” accuracy here is esteemed giving the film that sterling feel, from the mannerisms to the lingo used. These visuals force you to pursue the music album because the audio just emphasises the drama on screen as it acts as a scene transition tool and is so fitting. (Listen to the whole album above)
If you didn’t know of certain industry brands, this film gives you a crash course as it’s littered with brand placements from Loud, Trapstar, Benjart, Cortez and many more.
We have a heap of influencers tapping into their acting bag and some deliver and some don’t if I’m honest. Nines and Lightz were good as expected. Gave us the calm, level headed individual who translated to just being likeable. Lippy brings his energy to the big screen. He brought his authenticity and charisma to his character. The scenes were he was “himself” were brilliant, the scenes were he tries to “act” were awkward but for a first outing overall he delivered as the main villain. From there on its cameo central and turns into a game of “how many influencers can you spot?”. There is a brilliant comedic gimmick they utilise and it’s hilarious. One of the highlights for me. I call it the “Shut up and move from my window” LOL. This section is where they maximise the use of the influencers, it’s kind of a way to shoehorn them in and I love it. I feel like it can be developed into its own little mini series.
All in all it’s a good short movie that touches on trust, deception, brotherhood and an insight into the drug world. I wholeheartedly am looking forward to where the series goes. I’m hoping we don’t have to wait another 3+ years for the next music album for us to get another sequel. Also I hope some of these influencers try pursuing acting because some do have it in them. Recommended!
