Ambulance

  • If only every ambulance moved this fast when you call for help LOL

Adrenaline junkies! Welcome home! If Fast and Furious had a baby with Casualty via IVF and Michael Bay was the donor? You would have Ambulance! Come and see Wale in his acting bag… he was decent LOL

We follow the tale of 2 foster brothers who are sons to an infamous and top tier bank robber. Will served in the corps and is now a family man with a wife and son. His wife unfortunately is ill with cancer and Will doesn’t have insurance or the funds to get her the treatment she needs. Danny on the other hand followed in daddy’s footsteps and is on a record of 37 bank robberies before this job kicks off, crazy! Danny uses Wills desperation and he’s bad luck in life after the army to convince him to join him in this heist. We also meet Camille a paramedic who just isn’t emotionally available in any capacity but very good at her job. Our characters come together as the bank job goes horribly wrong with all the team being killed and the brothers shooting a cop by accident. The ambulance is then hijacked by the brothers so now we have 2 bank robbers, a paramedic and an injured cop hightailing it from the streets of LA. It’s fantastic!

Danny Sharp is played by Jake Gyllehaal, the enthusiastic, psychotic, mastermind brother. Jake is excellent, he provides the charisma and dramatic humour to all the chaos. He’s played similar characters like this in the past so it did feel quite easy and natural to him. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II plays Will Sharp the war vet husband and father whose focus is his family. He plays the righteous and ethical hero like character to a tee. He’s bold in what he believes in and through the whole movie he displays the qualities required to be a soldier. The whole sacrificial, non lethal and ensure everyone is safe personality. Yahya is brilliant. Jake and Yahya do a fantastic job of being that ying and yang of each other, the chemistry as brothers is there to see. Eiza Gonzalez plays Cam and she’s stern, tough and quite frankly ready to lead as an action lady from this portrayal. Herself along with Moses Ingram provide the emotional element to this tale. I did enjoy Garret and Olivias tick for tack back and forth as Dzaghig and Captain Monroe.

I for 1 would like know the name of the firearm Danny uses, it sounds epic! The action here is outstanding.

It’s classic Michael Bay ingredients with big explosives and big guns.

Mike uses these fast paced, zoom in zoom out techniques to emphasise the action. Almost like the camera is fitted to a bird and it’s swooping in and out of streets and the action, it’s a marvellous tool. The sound of vehicles, guns, explosions, all to the expected Bay film high quality. The action scenes are on a grand scale! Big, big monumental shootouts. You have high speed chases with gunners firing at each other whilst the medic performs an operation in the back of said vehicle? Whilst on a group video call getting advice on how to perform a surgery she’s never done before? Again at high speed you have the 2 brothers fighting whilst one is driving? With all this going on you have 2 opposing characters trying to convince Will to do the right thing?

The story is simple, clear and straight to the point here. They do insert some minor plot twists that don’t do much to the plot but serve their purpose nonetheless. It’s a climatic ending which brings the character development arcs full circle to a decent close. It’s definitely a recommended watch and one to leave you satisfied.

Do you enjoy the car chases here? Does something like this need a sequel? How far would you go when desperate? Are you more Danny or Will? React and comment below…
