SISU: Road to Revenge

Not every film needs to be grounded in reality. Some movies exist purely to let you sit back and clutch your popcorn a little too tightly. SISU: Road to Revenge is absolutely one of those films.

Starring Jorma Tommila doing what he does best and Stephen Lang bringing his trademark intensity, this is a revenge story that doesn’t spend too long on subtlety. It’s a straight shot of adrenaline, dirt, grit, and occasionally a surprising laugh that slips out before you remember someone’s just been impaled on something sharp.

The plot? Following on from 2022’s original, it’s as clean and straightforward as a sharpened blade: one man, wronged in the most brutal way possible, heads out to make things very right again. There’s a certain comfort in that simplicity. No convoluted backstory. No flashbacks every eight minutes. Just a determined man, some very unfortunate villains, and a running tally of creative violence.

What keeps it from becoming a grim slog is the sly humour sprinkled throughout. It never undercuts the brutality, but it gives you just enough levity to breathe between the carnage. The audience seemed to appreciate that—you could practically hear them all thinking, “I shouldn’t be laughing… but here we are.”
Tommila carries the film with that quietly unkillable aura he’s perfected, while Lang chews the scenery in the best way. Their dynamic works: unstoppable force meets immovable fury.

This movie isn’t trying to teach you a life lesson or nudge you toward emotional introspection. It’s here to deliver mayhem, catharsis, and the kind of action sequences that would make a physics teacher cry. And honestly? That’s more than enough.

If you’re into hyper-violent action films that proudly live in their own slightly unhinged universe, SISU: Road to Revenge is absolutely your next ride.

Just don’t expect realism. Expect entertainment. Expect excess. Expect to wince and grin in equal measure.
