In the near future, a ‘Grand Lottery’ has been newly established in California – the catch: kill the winner before sundown to legally claim their multi-billion dollar jackpot.
Awkwafina is Katie our jackpot winner and you guessed it, she basically plays herself. Very one dimensional, very meh, not much to her. What she does get credit for his choreography. She held a beating here. Dont know if she did all her stunts but she embraced the active parts well.
John Cena plays Noel and for me I love that he’s found his lane and he’s thriving in it. He’s actually funny and knows how to connect with his audience. Very energetic and fun. He’s a security agent here so lots of action and choreography. I’m very proud of him.
Simi Liu is the antagonist with a special appearance from Sean William Scott.
With its vibrant visuals, captivating soundtrack, and well-choreographed action sequences, the production team effectively captured the quirky and adventurous spirit of the story. The action sequences in Jackpot were a standout element, elevating the film’s overall entertainment value. The production team skillfully choreographed high-energy stunts, blending humor with thrilling action in a way that felt fresh and engaging. From fast-paced chases to cleverly executed fight scenes, each sequence was crafted with attention to detail, ensuring they were both visually impressive and in sync with the film’s comedic tone.
What set these action scenes apart was their creative approach; rather than relying solely on intense combat, the sequences incorporated clever props, unexpected twists, and situational humor that kept viewers on the edge of their seats. The use of dynamic camera angles, quick cuts, and a vibrant color palette added an extra layer of excitement, making the action not just thrilling but also visually appealing.
Jackpot makes for a good watch because it intentionally doesnt take itself too serious. It almost acts as a spoof or even re telling of The Purge. The film brought together a dynamic cast, led by talented actors whose chemistry was a highlight. John and Awkwafina gelled well. It was one of the movie’s biggest strengths, adding depth and charm to the film. The dynamic duo played off each other brilliantly, creating a lively and engaging rapport that carried the narrative forward. Their interactions were filled with witty banter, playful rivalry, and moments of genuine camaraderie, which made their partnership both entertaining and relatable. The story cleverly weaves together elements of deception, rivalry, and partnership, as the main characters navigate a series of chaotic events, including daring cons, double-crosses, and unexpected alliances.
All in all Jackpot was not amazing but it was decent enough to pass time aka A bus stop film! Prime Video keeps firing out these one time burners and I’m not mad at it. They all seem to be high quality productions even though some are weak in the story side of things. Jackpot, i’ll recommend this one. Fan of buddy cops? This one fits in there!
Is John Cena the best wrestler turned actor? Reckon you could survive in this world if you won the lottery? Do you think this should have gone cinema? Does it need a sequel?
