Smurfs (2025)

In this latest Smurfs adventure, our pint-sized blue crew takes a bold leap—literally—across dimensions. What starts as a simple quest for unity turns into a full-blown multiverse meltdown with portals, power-ups, and plot twists that had even the parents scratching their heads. Imagine Everything Everywhere All At Smurf… but for a PG crowd. Or at least, it tried to be.

Rihanna is Smurfette, and honestly? She did her thing. Vocally, she walks the tightrope between sass and soul, delivering lines with charm and power, and then snatching our ears back during the musical numbers. Rihanna + blue skin = certified icon.
Rylan Clark as Vanity Smurf had the audience giggling with every mirror-glance and hair-flip. He’s basically Smurf Ken, and we’re here for it.
The scene stealers? Clumsy Smurf, No Name (yes, that’s a real character), and of course, Papa Smurf. My kids were in hysterics anytime they popped up. Character-wise, it’s a joyride. Plot-wise? We’ll get to that.

Let’s give flowers where they’re due: the animation is gorgeous. 3D Smurfs have never looked better, with slick new designs that somehow still feel classic. Bonus points for that one scene that full-on switches to anime style—it was wild but kind of brilliant.
The soundtrack had a few hits and a lot of misses. A couple of tunes just felt like filler, but once again, Rihanna saves the playlist with a banger or two that’ll likely outlive the movie.

Let’s not smurf around it: this movie bit off more plot than it could chew. Multiversal themes? Check. Family trauma? Yup. Death traps, betrayal, grief? Oh, it’s all in there—just buried under a chaotic story structure that felt more suited to a Marvel+ therapy session than a kids’ film.
I went with my children, and by minute 10, they had tapped out of the story entirely. But bring out Clumsy or Vanity? Suddenly it’s a laugh riot again. That’s the problem—amazing moments but no glue holding them together.

The movie is clearly setting up a sequel, and here’s hoping the next script gets a smurfing rewrite. With this cast and these characters, the potential is massive—but for now, it’s a dazzling visual treat trapped in a confusing narrative maze.
